Welcome to Alaska Newspapers, Inc.
Founded in 1992, Alaska Newspapers, Inc. is a subsidiary of Calista Corp., one of the largest Alaska Native corporations in the state. ANI publishes six weekly community newspapers, a statewide shopper, a statewide magazine and slate of special publications that supplement our products year-round.
As newspaper groups go, our production and coverage area are unique in the world. More than 1,500 air miles separate our offices in Barrow and Unalaska. Of our six weekly papers, only one is on the road system. The rest are accessible by the Marine Ferry System or by air.
Our papers continue the proud legacy of Native publishing that began in 1961 with Howard Rock's Tundra Times. In those days, villages didn't have phone, television or Internet service and the Times gave Alaska Natives their first voice in mainstream media. It also united the Native community around the common issue of Native land claims.
In this proud tradition, Alaska Newspapers, Inc. provides a forum for thoughtful conversation and a voice for state and national advocacy.
ANI also has two sister divisions: Camai Printing and ANI Communications & Associates.
Founded in 1998, Camai is a full-service print shop offering web press and full sheet press services.
